4 weeks until my baby's due date. Things have gone well, with the exception of baby staying breech. On Monday Ellie will have the 'version' technique done, hoping to get the baby vertex (head down). In my opinion, this baby is definitely a girl. She takes after her mother in terms of stubbornness.
It's not fun to think about, but at the same time, there's not much else we could have done to prevent the breech position. Here's to hoping and praying all goes well, and the baby stays head down.
4 weeks since my last decent run, too. I ran tonight, covering the first 5 ish miles of the Glacial Trail 50 course. I had a head full of junk, but trail running works wonders on stuff like that...especially when your foot doesn't object in any way. It felt like utopia to hop over rocks and roots, and while my heart was thumping, it felt so good to be back! Still, I'm going to Ice Age to crew, and will continue to build slowly back to a decent running base.
In 4 weeks I'll be a daddy (probably) and also have a decent base developed to really start training for Glacial Trail. THAT'S my focus for the fall in terms of running. I want to kill it at that race.
Providing spousal and baby approval, of course!

Stray Bullets
- I'm signed up for the Navarino Marathon this weekend. I won't be there.
- I tried running on my left foot this weekend and made it about 1.5 miles before a strong tearing-like sensation began in my outer left foot. It progressively worsened, and after covering less than 3 miles in 34 minutes, I was done. I then limped (badly) around the house for the remainder of the DAY. Not good.
- I may have a stress reaction or stress fracture in my foot.
- I blame the pavement at Trailbreaker for it...and the fact my mileage in the weeks before Trailbreaker simply wasn't where it needed to be. But still, it's the pavement.
- I'm going to be biking like a mad man for a couple weeks, and working in some 'crossfit' stuff.
- It's very doubtful, but I'd love to be at the Ice Age 50K
- I am going to train and run like a man possessed for the Glacial Trail 50k in October...pending spousal and baby approval.
- This may be the last update here for a while--but for those keeping score, the baby is 6 weeks (ish) away!!!
- I love bullet points, almost as much as I hate MapMyRun
- Big congrats to Helen on Chippewa (but I still have not seen a single photograph of her drinking anything but some protein recovery crap)
- Big congrats to Matt P on a great run at Zumbro, and an even better write up
- I'd link to these things but am too lazy...hence the bullet points also
- I really hope SteveQ (a) doesn't retire from racing and (b) accepts me as a coaching client for the fall
- I'm tired of Glaven being nice.
- That is all, see y'all in a couple weeks, once the biking miles are in and I'm running again!
- TONIGHT ON MTV IS A "TRUE LIFE" EPISODE ABOUT NF. I run for the NF Endurance Team...so check it out if you get a chance. It'll be eye-opening, I assure you!

Chippewa's Out. Probably.
I went for a walk with Ellie and Parsenn last night, and was limping roughly three driveways from our house. I'm getting it worked on today and Thursday, but Ellie made a pretty good point, when she asked how I was going to run 31 miles, no matter how well it heals, only a couple days after not making it 31 feet.
Uggh! Frustrated!
It doesn't hurt at all, or not much at all, during the day. Xrays are fine. Ultrasound feels good. Standing's fine. It just hurts if I walk more than 50 feet continuously.
Here's a good article on what exactly the problem is. I'll have it worked on the rest of the week daily and hope that I can run the marathon scheduled for April 17.

Uh Oh.
I wish this was April Fools.
This week has been a great week of running. The day after Trailbreaker I ran trails for an hour and a half. Monday was 7 miles, with some speed work (including my first sub-6 minute mile in a workout of the year!). Tuesday was a decent hill repeat workout.
Then Wednesday, after getting done with work, Ellie and I took Parsenn for a walk. While I was on my feet all day and pain free, that walk flared something up, and the outside edge of my left foot was really, really sore--like there was a stone in my shoe.
Yesterday I felt fine again all day. I spent 4 hours in the morning clearing a fence line with my brother-in-law, then volunteered at the local elementary school, and then took off for the trails to do a "time trial" workout--about 2 hours of running at threshold level.
It started off great, as I finished the first 33 minutes at sub-8 pace (a good effort for me on the Ice Age Trail). Then my left foot started aching. Bad.
I ended up hiking back to the car after about 55 minutes of running and cutting my 2 hour run short, at just 71 minutes.
The foot continued to stiffen up on the ride home, and after some light therapy treatment at work, it was really sore. Today I'll run ultrasound over it and see how that goes. I'm still not sure what's going on, but I had big hopes for this weekend! I guess it's time to get the tires inflated on the road bike!
I'm not signed up for Chippewa yet, and that will officially be a decision made on Friday.
I'm thinking it's my cuboid subluxated inferiorly. Now, if I was Steve, I'd just find a stick and stomp my foot on it to fix it. If I was Helen, I'd be flexible enough from yoga to adjust it myself.
If I was Glaven, I'd start picking out a biking route (to use on my bike named after some dumb singer) on MapMyEFFINGRun.com.
Have a great Easter, everyone!
