2009: The Year of Glaven

"__ people have checked if Glaven has commented yet."

Perhaps the reason that I have posted so infrequently is because there are so infrequent comments to the post. I'm pretty sure very few people leave comments on this blog because one Glaven Q. Heisenberg is no longer commenting, or ridiculing me on his own blog. I'll be honest: I miss him.

There, I said it.

I somehow found G's site in late 2008 and immediately added it to my blogroll because of its great title of "Mostly Running, Some Bull@hi1^." (ps...I hope my computer thinks that I just wrote an email address). He immediately started commenting on my site and giving me a much unwarranted nickname of "Dr. Super Runner." (this was later changed to "Dr. Nic Medicine Woman," which was probably, in some way, more accurate). From then on I looked forward to taking the abuse he doled out in the comment section regarding pretty much any topic I touched on. I envy his ability to write. Brevity was not his strongsuit. (He left that to Teh 'Bride)

More than his "running" site, I enjoyed his "Why are you so F@ck&*g Angry?" blog (again, keeping the link), which I thought was absolutely must-read material. He often touched on the adventures of King Fisherman Ian, the hoarding tendencies home projects of his wife, Teh 'Bride, and also the HeisenDad. The closest I got to actually "knowing" him was an email address, which I used to get an address to send a gift to Teh 'Bride--a pint glass that reads "Fuzzy Yellow Beer is for Wussies"--, which I never got around to doing...yet...but I really enjoyed "knowing" him through the blog. It made my blog a LOT BETTER, TOO.

Here's to you, Glaven! I wish you and your family the most Merry Christmas possible!

(or, as you libs like to say..."Happy Holidays" :)

Santa's List

What am I missing?

Ellie has given me the task of coming up with some stuff that I'd like to get for Christmas, and I'm really struggling with it. I've gotten to the point of eliminating the "not-fun-but-needed" items, having recently purchased a new (to me) car, and today getting chains for the snow blower and heavy duty shovels (I got OWNED today by the Blizzard that came through--thank God for helpful neighbors or I wouldn't have gotten out of the driveway).

So now I'm thinking of "fun" stuff to get, and I need help. Considering I'm pretty much a fanatic when it comes to running (I've run a total of 9 miles our in the elements since the Winter Weather/Blizzard Advisories began last night), I'm asking for help! It seems to me I'm pretty set when it comes to gear.

What's essential to your run? Better yet, what's something you use when running occasionally--not always--and LOVE because it's available for those certain runs when you need it?

...In other news, I'm messing around with the look of the page...I feel like a change. As for running, it's been pretty steady:
  • Monday/Wednesday: easy 3-5 miles, with Parsenn towing me
  • Tuesday: Hills, Hills, Hills. I've been increasing the work. Last week was 16 repeats, 4 miles total
  • Thursday: Long run, last week was 17, this week is 18...weather pending
  • Friday off, then a fast run on Saturday and a longish run Sunday

I'm hoping to run well at Psycho Wyco, and then bust a PR in a marathon in May. I'm not sure which Marathon yet, but I find myself leaning towards the Wisconsin Marathon.
